Sterling Silver Mexican Fire Agate Pendant Huge Artisan Handcrafted

  

This is a gorgeous huge sterling silver Fire Agate pendant. Fire Agate is a rare and interesting gem of unusual beauty. This fabulous gemstone is in a Freeform shape and looks beautiful worn on the neck. This Freeform shape has a deeply curved face.

It is a natural Fire Agate and has naturally occurring imperfections and inclusions. Please examine all photos carefully. This is definitely a one of a kind collector's piece. THERE ARE NATURAL ROUGH PATCHES ON THE FRONT AND A ROUGH AREA ON THE BACK OF THE STONE. These rough spots are parts of the BEDROCK and CLAY POCKETS that Fire Agates are found in and are an inherent part of the stone or the "matrix" stone in which the Mexican Fire Agate was formed in nature.

This is a very large stone as far as Fire Agates go and the gem cutter wanted to keep as much of the Fire Agate intact as he could. Fire Agate is one of the rarest forms of Agate and a true gem of natures creation.

Found only in about a dozen places in the world, mainly California, Arizona and Mexico. Formed from volcanic activity many years ago. This gem was formed from the flow of hot water, leaving deposits of water and minerals trapped in the creases and crevices of bedrock and deposited under rocks found in clay pockets.

Flowing water hardened as it cooled, with minerals being trapped in the layers of hardening water. When cooled, the water turned into what we call Chalcodony today.

When you find a piece of Fire Agate attached to the bedrock, or in clay pockets, normally you can't see any fire (color) when first found. When the gem artist grinds, polishes and shapes the stone, the beautiful colors start to show through.

Cutting Fire Agate is a painstaking process. Fire Agate is a durable gemstone with a hardness of 7 on the Mohs scale.

MEASUREMENTS - This pendant measures approximately 3" tall including the bail and it is approximately 1-1/2" wide at its widest point. The pendant is approximately 5/8 thick at its thickest point. The Fire Agate stone itself measures 50 mm x 35 mm. The inner bail dimension is approximately 9 mm wide. WEIGHT - The pendant weighs a heavy 50.6 grams - see photo #3.
